Adventure Medics Mission

At Adventure Medics, it is our mission to exceed the highest standards of medical care on the front lines of wildfires. Our medics are highly trained and able to adapt to any situation in the field. Our equipment is field tested and ready to respond in any terrain or medical situation that may occur on the fireline. We strive to go above and beyond in ensuring that firefighters, civilians, and anyone else who may be affected by wildland fires are able to return home safely and in good health.

Fireline Medical Providers

Fireline qualified Paramedics, AEMTs, EMTs, RNs, and PAs
Equipped with ALS or BLS kits with all necessary emergency medications and equipment to handle any type of IWI
Our fireline medics successfully complete an arduous pack test as well as additional in-house pt testing
Backcountry medicine and patient extrication experience

REMS / RAT Team

Our highly trained 4-person Rapid Extraction Module Support (REMS) or 2-person Reach and Treat (RAT) teams come equipped with state-of-the-art ALS medical equipment, vehicle extrication tools, as well as swiftwater and rope rescue gear to facilitate complex extractions in any difficult terrain. Teams utilize a Polaris RZR with dedicated patient packaging to transport injured firefighters off the fireline.

Swiftwater Rescue Team

Our 10-person swiftwater rescue team is available for deployments anywhere to assist in rescue or recovery operations.

UTV Team

2-person ALS or BLS teams operating the newest Polaris Rangers which are able to access injured firefighters far down the fireline. They come equipped with all the equipment and medications they need to respond to IWIs and to keep firefighters healthy.

Our staff is exhausted, our medical supplies depleted, and all of our rigs are covered in mud.

When we ask our staff what their favorite event is, one of the most common answers we get is: @stumpjumpersdesert100
.
And that’s no surprise! Set in Odessa, WA, Stumpjumpers is the worlds largest single track dirt bike race. Or in our world: a three day trauma-palooza! Our event staff will be spread out all over the 100mi course on UTVs and ATVs — ready to respond in on a moment’s notice. We coordinate closely with the local air ambulance, EMS agency, and hospital to quickly get patients packaged and transported to definitive care. This event is a major proving ground for our medical team— they get tried and tested and always come home with some epic stories. The Stumpjumpers family is incredible — amazing athletes and even bigger hearts. We love heading back every year to see our friends and help make this the coolest event in the west!

We left Bend in a big caravan this morning to start the equipment load in. If you see a bunch of topo wrapped trucks and trailers along the road today, give our crews a big wave!

Here’s to hoping the 2024 Desert 100 is the best year yet!!

M E E T T H E M E D I C S:

Meet James Donachy! James is our other brand new team member this Spring! James is joining the long line of phenomenal Jims/James/Jimothies we have had in our Fleet Manager position and so far has been a rockstar addition to our team. James got a preview of life at Adventure Medics this spring when he joined our first ever in-house EMR/WFR class. James originally pursued this certificate to augment his work in the outdoor industry. He is a professional member of the AMGA (American Mountain Guide Association) and just earned his Single Pitch Instructor. James was a phenomenal student and we are excited to watch his medical skills continue to grow and develop. Although he is newer to the field of medicine, James is no stranger to logistics. He has worked in logistics and operations for the last fifteen years, moving products across the globe for various industries. He also has a substantial personal and professional history of working with vehicles and machines and we are thrilled to have him taking care of our ever growing fleet.

So far, James’ favorite thing about working for Adventure Medics is, in his words, “Getting to be part of an amazing team of talented and caring professionals.” He is excited for the opportunity to continue learning and developing practical skills and is looking forward to seeing the positive impact that our work has on the community.

James and his partner, MaryKate, relocated to Central Oregon in 2022 from Pittsburgh, PA. Since then, they’ve settled into to Bend life nicely, buying a house and adopting an orange cat. James has been a perfect fit for Adventure Medics and Bend life – outside of work, you can find him participating in virtually every adventure sport possible. He is an avid climber, rafter, skier, and lover of all things two wheels – motorcycles, dirt bikes, enduros, gravel bikes, mountain bikes, and more. He loves bike- and backpacking, road tripping, and camping with friends. You can often find him playing a guitar by the campfire. When not adventuring, James is busy building camper vans and tiny houses and searching for the best pizza in Bend.

This winter, we sent three of our Rope Rescue Specialists off to start the process of becoming Rope Rescue Instructors for Rescue 3. This March, we were thrilled to be able to offer our first in-house rope rescue certification class!
.
Major congrats to our four new Rope Rescue Operators from our Washington Branch!! We had a fantastic three day class in rain, shine, and up the sides of some very cool towers! We are so excited to bring a higher level of training to our Washington providers and increase the efficacy of the Patient Access Team. We are dedicated to bringing the highest level of medical and rescue support to the citizens of Lewis County, and this was another giant step forward. Thanks to all our employees for coming out— and to our fantastic instructors for putting on such a great class.
